Bao Down – Middlesbrough STACK

Bao Down – Chicken Katsu Curry

Good North East based chain of curry!

Bao Down is one of the few chains which appear in many of the STACK multi-vendor venues, along with a North East favourite Greek food chain, Acropolis. Their chicken katsu curry option provided a good amount of sticky rice, curry and well prepared chicken.

4.5

Recently having visited STACK in Middlesbrough, positioned strangely underneath the A66 flyover, it massively improves the area with a comfy well-sized venue with many different food outlets, catering to a wide range of tastes. Middlesbrough hosts a location of Bao Down, a small chain with a bunch of locations starting from Grainger Street Market in Newcastle to STACK Lincoln (not quite the North East, but STACK is centralized around the North East at the time of writing).

Having found Bao Down offering an affordable Katsu offering for £8.95 (at the time of writing) I decided to give it a try, and less than 20 minutes later a piping hot bowl of sticky rice, curry sauce and fried chicken presented. The rice being nice and sticky and able to ensure all of the sauce is picked up and how it should be.

The chicken was also properly coated in panko breadcrumbs, and cooked perfectly, and sliced into strips, easy enough to cut down into bits with the provided disposable wooden cutlery – no hard chunks here.

Overall, a very good katsu curry and would opt to this option in future, and especially with STACK there’s no pressure for any others in a group to join in and instead can opt for pizza, souvlaki or other delights!
